Five personality tests companies use to hire employees

Job Hunters

Aside from looking at your credentials, personal information, and educational attainment, human resources professionals use different kinds of personality tests to assess potential employees’ personalities. Companies do this to ensure that you are fit for the job. An introvert wouldn’t be hired for careers that involve going out and interacting with people frequently as tasks like these would not be suitable for an introvert. Companies test your personality in order to know if you are really the person they are looking for. Here are some of the personality tests employers use to evaluate their candidates in a certain position:

The 16PF Questionnaire

Raymond Catell is best known for developing the Sixteen Personality Factor (16PF) Questionnaire in 1949. He identified sixteen traits that are universal all throughout people, but are exhibited in varying degrees. There are 170 questions that you need to answer so that your personality and potential actions to situations will be assessed.

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)

This personality test, unlike other tests, should be administered by a licensed clinical expert like a psychologist or psychometrician. This is because the results can only be interpreted through the field of psychology by these experts. The MMPI’s purpose is to assess candidates for employment whether they have psychological disorders.

The Caliper Profile

This is by far one of the oldest personality tests used by companies and institutions as it has been used for almost fifty years. This test aims to measure personality traits that are connected to the skills needed for the specific job.

Gallup Strengths Profile

As the name implies, this test focuses on assessing your strengths rather than your weaknesses. There are about 177 statements to be answered or agreed upon by the test taker to see what positive traits he/she possess.

Myers- Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

This is one of the most popular personality tests known in the history of psychology. You may have heard someone say he/she is an INTJ, ESFJ, ENTP or etc. The MBTI looks at where your personality falls in the four dichotomies, namely: sensing or intuition, introversion or extroversion, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving. The combination of your results can be categorized under the 6 different personality types labelled by different initials.
