Employee Tips 101: Improving Your Time Management [PART I]

running man

“So much to do, so little time” This saying is very common among people with the modern-day lifestyle. Almost everyone fall victim to this universal law that we just do not have enough time in the day.

Chances are that at some point in your life, you have taken a time management class, tried to use an electronic or paper-based planner, or even read about time management in books and websites such as the one you reading right now. But the bottom line is, do you still feel like you cannot get everything done? HRT Staffing Services in Decker Dr. Irving Texas shares to you today on improving your time management skills!

First things first, you have to learn what time is and to simply put it, time is when stuff happens. But there are two (2) types of time—clock time and real time. In clock time, there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. All time passes equally for everybody; so, when someone turns 50, face it, it is exactly 50, no more or no less.

In real time, however, time is relative. Time flies or drags depending on what you are doing. Two hours in a traffic jam can feel like a year or two but our 5-year-old child seem to have grown up in 2 hours. So, what kind of time describes the world you live in?

Now, why does time management gadgets and systems do not work? It is because these systems and things are designed to manage the clock time, which is irrelevant. You have to know that you live in real time, a world in which all time flies when you are hanging out with friends and drags when you are doing your taxes.

Basically, experts say there are only three (3) ways to spend time—thoughts, conversations, and actions. Your work will be composed of those three items regardless of the type of work you have or business you own. Entrepreneurs and employees are frequently interrupted or pulled in different directions and you have somehow no way to eliminate these interruptions, but you do get a say on how much time you will spend on them, how much time you will spend on the conversations, thoughts, and actions that you would want to happen knowing it can lead you to success.

Now, how important is time management?
Time management is crucial because it is limited given that there are only 24 hours in a day that applies to you, to your coworker who only seems to be able to do half the amount of work you do, and to your former coworker who consistently accomplishes more than you and was promoted as a result.

You improve your ability to focus when you learn to take control of your time; you do not lose momentum and you will start to breeze through tasks more quickly because time management improves your decision-making ability.
